Renewable Energy
Renewable energy is the future of sustainable power. With the world's growing demand for energy, the depletion of non-renewable resources and the harmful environmental impacts of traditional energy sources, the shift towards renewable energy sources has never been more important. Solar, wind, hydro and geothermal power are all viable options that can help reduce our carbon footprint and secure a cleaner, brighter future for generations to come.
Solar Farm - Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission
Gaithersburg and Upper Marlboro, Maryland
BEI engineers worked with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission to design a 4 MW system of solar panel arrays. Solar farms were constructed on the 25 acre WSSC Seneca Wastewater Treatment Plant in Germantown, MD and the 13 acres WSSC Western Branch Wastewater Treatment Plant in Upper Marlboro, MD. Each site features nearly 8,500 solar panels. Together, the solar arrays at the two plants are expected to generate approximately 6.6 million kWh of solar energy each year, providing approximately 17% of the electricity required to operate the two plants.
